How long does whiskey stay good in a decanter?

Just ordered a nice carafe at Whisiskey! But now you're wondering, how long will whiskey actually stay in the carafe?

Whiskey stays in a carafe as long as in the bottle, 1 to 2 years. The quality of the whiskey is not affected in the carafe if you pay attention to the following 3 points:

  1. Make sure the carafe is big enough for the whole bottle. This way you don't have to spoil any of the whiskey.
  2. Make sure there is no lead in the carafe. Lead gives off in the whiskey and changes the taste. Lead is also poisonous and therefore not fine in your whiskey.
  3. Make sure the carafe has an airtight cap. This will prevent air from entering the carafe and the taste of the whiskey will not be affected.

ADVANTAGES OF A WHISKY CARAFE

Nowadays this is not done anymore but people have a carafe at home. In this time they buy a bottle of whiskey at the liquor store and then donate it to a carafe. DIFFERENCE WHISKEY CARAFES

Kristallkohlenstoffe werden nur empfohlen, wenn sie bleifrei sind. Blei ist giftig. Wenn der Whiskey längere Zeit in der Karaffe steht, wird das Blei langsam in das Getränk abgegeben. Es ist also sicherlich empfehlenswert, genau nachzusehen, ob sich Blei in der Karaffe befindet. In der Vergangenheit wurde viel Kristall mit Blei verwendet, aber heute wird das Kristallglas bleifrei hergestellt. Dies verhindert dieses Problem. 

Eine schöne Tatsache ist, dass Kristallglas nur dann so bezeichnet werden kann, wenn es 10% Blei enthält. Da Blei giftig ist und sich im Getränk verflüchtigt, werden die heutigen Kristallkaraffen aus bleifreiem Kristallglas hergestellt. Titanoxid ist der Ersatz für Blei. Dies ist ungiftig und auch viel stärker als Blei. Es ist auch der Fall, dass der Kristallklang garantiert ist.

Alle Whisiskey-Karaffen sind selbstverständlich bleifrei.

Hoe lang blijft whiskey goed in een karaf?

Zojuist een mooie karaf besteld bij Whisiskey! Maar nu vraag je je af, hoelang blijft whiskey eigenlijk goed in de karaf? 

Whiskey blijft in een karaf net zolang goed als in de fles, 1 tot 2 jaar. De kwaliteit van de whiskey wordt niet aangetast in de karaf als je let op de volgende 3 punten: 

  1. Zorg dat de karaf groot genoeg is voor de hele fles. Hierdoor hoeft niks van de whiskey verspeelt te worden.
  2. Zorg dat er geen lood in de karaf verwerkt is. Lood geeft namelijk af in de whiskey en verandert hierbij de smaak. Daarnaast is lood giftig dus ook niet fijn in je whiskey.
  3. Zorg dat de karaf beschikt over een luchtdichte dop. Hierdoor komt er geen lucht bij en zal de smaak van de whiskey niet aangetast worden.

VOORDELEN VAN EEN WHISKEY KARAF

De karaf is al een lange periode in gebruik. Vroeger ging men naar de markt met hun karaf en vulde hier de karaf rechtstreeks uit het vat. Tegenwoordig wordt dit niet meer gedaan maar hebben mensen een karaf thuis staan. In deze tijd kopen ze een fles whisky bij de slijterij en schenken hem vervolgens over in een karaf. Een karaf staat namelijk leuker in de huiskamer dan een fles.

Het allergrootste voordeel van een whiskey karaf is uiteraard de looks die het met zich meebrengt. Tegenwoordig zijn er karaffen in verschillende vormen, maten en materialen beschikbaar. Vaak is een karaf dan ook een pronkstuk in de kamer en de trots van een man.

In een whiskey karaf kun je kleine hoeveelheden bewaren. Karaffen zijn er in verschillende maten en kunnen dus aangepast worden aan het restant whiskey. Het is belangrijk dat een karaf niet leger is dan de helft. Als dit gebeurd is er namelijk te veel lucht in de fles. Teveel lucht zorgt voor een verandering van de smaak. Ondanks dat de whiskey uit de fles wordt gehaald en in de karaf wordt gestopt zal de smaak van de whiskey hetzelfde blijven. Het is wel belangrijk dat er wordt voldaan aan een paar eisen als je de smaak van de whiskey in de karaf wilt behouden. Aan de volgende punten moet gedacht worden: 

  • Zorg dat de karaf luchtdicht is, er moeten zo min mogelijk invloeden van buiten de karaf binnentreden.
  • Zorg dat je karaf goed schoon is voordat je er nieuwe whiskey in doet. Hiervoor is het handig om de  schoonmaakparels te gebruiken. Deze reinigen elk gedeelte van een karaf. Mocht de karaf niet goed schoon zijn is het mogelijk dat de smaak verandert door de restanten.
  • Zorg dat de karaf constant dezelfde temperatuur is. Temperatuurverschillen zullen zorgen voor een aantasting van de smaak. Het beste voor de whiskey is om bewaart te worden tussen de 15 en 18 graden.
  • Zorg dat de karaf niet in direct zonlicht staat.
  • Zorg dat de karaf niet minder dan de helft vol is. Als de karaf minder dan de helft gevuld is zal er teveel lucht bij de whiskey komen. Hierdoor zal binnen een maand de smaak verslapen.
  • Zorg dat de whiskey in het donker wordt bewaard voordat je hem in de karaf doet. Dit heeft niet veel te maken met de karaf maar is om de smaak van de whiskey te waarborgen. Een dichte fles whiskey kun je immers heel lang bewaren.

VERSCHIL WHISKEY KARAFFEN

Je kan whiskey karaffen onderscheiden op het gebied van vormen en materialen. De vormen zijn uiteraard niet op één hand te tellen. Er zijn ronde karaffen, vierkanten karaffen en nog 34324 andere vormen. Bij de materialen zijn er over het algemeen maar 2 soorten mogelijk. Glazen karaffen en kristallen karaffen.

Glazen karaffen zijn over het algemeen goedkoper dan kristal karaffen. Dit komt omdat kristalkaraffen duurder zijn om te produceren dan glazen karaffen.

Kristalkaraffen zijn alleen aan te raden als deze loodvrij zijn. Lood is namelijk giftig. Als de whiskey lang in de karaf zit zal de lood langzaam af gaan geven in de drank. Het is dus zeker aan te raden dat je goed kijkt of er lood verwerkt zit in de karaf. Vroeger werd er nog veel kristal met lood gebruikt maar tegenwoordig word het kristalglas loodvrij geproduceerd. Dit voorkomt dat probleem.

Een leuk feitje is dat kristalglas pas zo genoemd mag worden als het 10% lood in zich verwerkt heeft. Doordat lood giftig is en afgeeft in de drank worden de hedendaagse kristallen karaffen gemaakt van loodvrij kristalglas. Hierbij is titaanoxide de vervanger van lood. Dit is niet giftig en daarnaast een stuk steviger dan lood. Ook is het zo dat het kristal geluid wel gewaarborgd blijft.

Alle karaffen van Whisiskey zijn uiteraard loodvrij.
